East Eugene

On The Map

The East Eugene neighborhood covers a large portion of the southern half of Eugene. Travel south over the Ferry Street Bridge and head east on Franklin Blvd to tour the north side of this neighborhood. You’ll find lots of restaurants, parks, hiking trails and more if you stay east of Willamette, west of the interstate and north of the Ridgeline Trail near Spencer Butte Park.

All Fans Welcomed, But Seriously We Love Our Ducks

There is no more vibrant area in Eugene than the East Eugene neighborhood. The University of Oregon campus has over 30,000 students and staff throughout the school year, making it a small city in-itself. Sporting events, concerts, theater shows and more all take place during the year and bring fans from miles around. The energy on campus is exciting but the summer brings a nice calmness to the neighborhood too.

Much of the area is housing, with single family homes and apartments throughout. The average rent in this neighborhood is about $1,700 for two bedrooms and the average home price is $573,177. East Eugene is very green, with rolling hills and the Willamette river surrounding it. It’s a popular destination for hiking, rock climbing and other outdoor activities. East Eugene embraces modern changes, evidenced by all the new commercial construction added over the past couple years, but holds on to it’s history and small town vibes seen throughout the neighborhood.

Where to Go and What to See

East Eugene has so much to offer, but here are our favorites.

1. University of Oregon campus – 1585 E 13th Ave

You could spend hours exploring the Duck campus. Grab a snack at the Memorial Union building, explore the gravestones in the cemetery outside Mac Court, or just enjoy some sunshine while relaxing in the Memorial Quad. If you do anything though then head over to the new Hayward Field and walk through the museum along Agate Street. There you can learn about the history of the University of Oregon’s track and field team and see why Eugene has earned the nickname “Track Town USA”. Don’t forget to stop into the Duckstore and get yourself something green and yellow!

2. East Skinner Butte Historic Landmark Area – South Skinner Butte Park

East Eugene is also known for its beautiful parks and historic homes. Just north of 5th Street Public Market are several historic homes that were built by early Eugene settlers. Grab a flyer and take a self-guided walking tour through the hillside to see these incredibly crafted Queen Anne Victorian style homes.

3. 5th Street Public Market – 296 E 5th Ave

This market has been a center piece of Eugene for decades. It houses shops, restaurants, bars and now a 5-star hotel. Provisions is on the ground floor and has great lunch time meals, treats for afterwards and gifts to take home.

4. Hendricks Park – Summit Ave and Skyline Blvd

Just south of campus this park boasts quiet, wide trails make this park great for a stroll on a nice day. Visit in the spring and see the rhododendron garden in full bloom.

5. Prince Puckler’s Ice Cream Parlor – 1605 E 19th Ave

Open since 1975 this ice cream shop is a staple of the East Eugene neighborhood. They offer several flavors, some unique to Oregon. Get a scoop of the Oregon Bing Cherry on a hot day and you’ll be back.

6. Agate Alley Bistro – 1461 E 19th Ave

Tucked along 19th street is this quaint restaurant. Agate Alley is open for brunch, lunch and dinner. We love this spot for a fancy spirit with friends or a quiet dinner for two.

7. Amazon Park – 22 Amazon Parkway

This large park covers much of east and south Eugene, but outside the walking and biking trails is a large playground and public pool. Amazon’s playground was recently renovated and is perfect for smaller kiddos. The pool next door hosts open swim times, lap swim and lessons. Pack up the kids, bring a picnic and settle in for a day of fun.
